Offer information on the appeal process and other remedial measures (if needed)

If the assessment outcome is not favourable to the applicant, provide information on the appeal process and other remedial measures to assist with recognition.

 

  • Direct the applicant to information on the appeal process, publicly accessible on your organization’s website and/or included in the application package, and provide additional information if needed, such as:
    • your organization’s contact for the review or appeal of the assessment outcome;
    • a step-by-step description of the appeal process;
    • the applicable legal framework (e.g., provincial laws and regulations, international conventions);
    • basic information on the appeal application form;
    • processing fees (if any) and timelines;
    • a request for new evidence from the applicant (if applicable).
  • Assist the applicant in identifying remedial measures in order to obtain recognition at a later stage, such as:
    • information on educational institutions offering similar academic programs;
    • bridging academic programs to make up for the substantial differences identified;
    • alternative forms of study;
    • undertaking prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) through:
      • an educational institution;
      • a professional regulatory body;
      • another third-party;
    • financial-assistance opportunities.
